I love this book when I read it two years back. I read right at the beginning of summer and because it takes place during summer it works so well. And then the obvious reason for it being the best summer read: It's a Sarah Dessen book.
How to Ruin a Summer Vacation by Simone Elkeles

This is one of my all time favorite book. Actually the entire "How To Ruin"-trilogy is one of my favorites. I read all three in about three days. And I've read each of them a few times. The minute I finished this one the next two were already on their way to my house. Even writing this synopsis makes me want to read them all over again. Simone Elkeles has grown famous on her Perfect Chemistry trilogy, which is of course amazing, but I feel like no one really know that Simone Elkeles didn't just nail it with one series, but with all of her books (including the Leaving Paradise series). If you haven't picked any of Simone Elkeles' books up, or only read Perfect Chemistry, read this one NOW! - Not if you hated Perfect Chemistry, because this is just as beautifully written, romantic and girly.

It's nice to read chick-lits during summer, but I feel like sometimes it can get too much. Then it's nice to read a book that is not only about love, but also about mind reading, seeing into the future, espionage and all kinds of awesome. This book is amazing, not too light and not too heavy to read, just amazing.
Kiersten White also wrote Paranormalcy and she really knows what she's doing.

This book has got pretty much everything: Time travel (yay!), love, modern time, old times, sadness, happiness and I could go on. It is definitely a page-turner and really good when all you need is just to get lost in a book. It's not only a summer book - none of these books are - but I read it in the summer, and thought it was a really nice time to read it.

I like to read really heartbreaking books in the summer, because it's much more devastating to read them when it's dark outside and the rain the pouring down. It may be a sad way to enjoy the beautiful weather, but I think it's nice to sometimes cry over a book. This one is incredibly real and just such a nice read. I highly recommend it.
